Ok – what are the features of this Singer 1507 sewing machine?
The Singer 1507 is an 8 stitch machine.
This machine has eight basic, but very useful stitches as shown on the stitch chart to the left.The stitches as you can see include basic button holes, straight stitching and zigzag. These 8 stitches allow for most basic sewing tasks including repairs and mending.
Four step button holes.
Button holes can be created with four simple steps on this sewing machine. It’s not a quick and painless as some of the more expensive machines, which basically do the buttonhole in one step and without any need for the user to do anything. But it is easy. If you’re not planning on doing lots of sewing that requires lots of buttonholes, then this isn’t going to be a problem for you.
This video shows what is involved in sewing a 4 step button hole. It’s pretty simple and once done you just cut between the stitching on the two sides of the button hole, to actually create the hole for the button to go through.
3 Needle Positions
This means that the needle can be repositioned from it’s normal centered position, to either the left or the right. This provides flexibility and is useful for such applications as sewing in a zipper where the needle needs to be moved to the right or left to use a zipper foot and get in nice and close to the zipper.

My opinion, is that this is a great little sewing machine and at under $100, it is at a good price for the beginner wanting to do some basic sewing and mending.
Pros:
- It’s an electric machine which means it’s simple to use.
- It’s available at an affordable price.
- It gets mostly great reviews.
- It’s perfect for beginners.
- It’s lightweight and great for those who have to carry it around.
Cons:
- It is less suited to those wanting to sew more complicated tasks
- It may not be suitable for very sheer fabrics
- No automatic speed control
- More complicated sewing jobs would take more time than if using a more sophisticated machine as jobs such as button holes and threading are going to be more time consuming due to a lack of automation.

Any complaints?
There are a few complaints, but not too many. Most seem to be about tension and the threading which is a bit weird as the majority of other reviewers have actually praised these features as being simple.
